Independent identity practice · Indiranagar, Bengaluru

Marks that mean business.

MUDRA is a one-designer brand studio on 100 Feet Road. I build logo systems, packaging and brand books for Indian founders who want to look like the category leader — before they are one.

The studio

One designer. Full attention. No account managers.

Mudra means a seal — the mark a maker presses into their work. For nine years I have pressed that philosophy into every brand that walks through this studio: identity is not decoration, it is the shortest argument for why you exist.

I work with four founders a quarter, never more. Every engagement gets my hands — strategy, sketching, type, packaging dielines, and the brand book your future team will actually read.

Selected work

Four identities, unfolded.

Tap any project to open the full case study in place — the problem, the mark, the palette (tap a swatch to copy it), the packaging, and a before/after you can drag.

The problem

Kaadu grows single-estate arabica at 4,800 ft in Chikkamagaluru, yet at the shelf it looked like a commodity — a clipart cup, a beige pouch, a name nobody could place. Retail buyers in Bengaluru kept it on the bottom shelf and D2C conversion sat under one percent.

The brief: make the estate's forest heritage the hero, survive a crowded specialty-coffee shelf at arm's length, and stretch from 250g pouches to cold-brew cans without redesign.

Palette — tap to copy

Forest green carries 60% of every surface; roast orange is reserved for the bean window and price flags.

The mark

KAADU ESTATE COFFEE · EST 1962

A K that grows a leaf — the estate's canopy folded into the letterform. Drawn on a 12-column grid so it holds from a 12mm pouch stamp to a 3-metre café fascia.

Packaging

Before
After

Outcome (illustrative): premium shelf placement in 40+ Bengaluru stores, D2C conversion up 2.4×.

The problem

Nila — "moon" in Tamil — makes overnight ayurvedic skincare. The old identity leaned on every tired trope: mortar-and-pestle icons, parchment textures, fake Sanskrit type. Urban buyers read it as their grandmother's shelf, not their own.

The brief: keep the classical authority, lose the costume. A system elegant enough for a Nykaa listing and honest enough for a vaidya's endorsement — across 14 SKUs, cartons, jars and a ritual guidebook.

Palette — tap to copy

Midnight indigo owns the night-ritual story; sandal gold is foil-stamped, never printed.

The mark

NILA AYURVEDA · NIGHT RITUALS

A waning moon cradling a single vetiver drop — the whole product story in two shapes. The crescent doubles as a jar-lid emboss and an app icon.

Outcome (illustrative): featured in two premium marketplace edits; repeat purchase rate up 61%.

The problem

Dabba Express delivers 9,000 home-style meals a day across Bengaluru's tech corridors. But on a Swiggy tile the brand was a red circle with Hindi-font English — indistinguishable from a thousand kitchens, and invisible at thumbnail size.

The brief: an identity that reads at 56 pixels, prints in one colour on a steel tiffin sleeve, and makes a ₹149 thali feel like a ritual, not a compromise.

Palette — tap to copy

Tadka red for the mark only; haldi yellow does the wayfinding on bags and sleeves.

The mark

DABBA EXPRESS · GHAR KA KHANA

Three stacked tins and two handles — the classic Bombay dabba abstracted to five shapes. It animates: tiers slide open in the app while your order cooks.

Outcome (illustrative): Swiggy tile CTR up 3.1×; corporate meal contracts from 2 to 11 campuses.

The problem

Nivesh Club teaches 21-year-olds in Mumbai and Pune to start SIPs before they start EMIs. Every fintech visual cliché — bulls, arrows, navy gradients — read as "my father's broker". The community felt young; the brand felt like paperwork.

The brief: identity only, six weeks. A mark that works as a WhatsApp community icon, a YouTube avatar and an event backdrop — and survives being screenshot at 2 am.

Palette — tap to copy

Mint is the "growth" accent — used only on numbers that go up.

The mark

NIVESH CLUB · INVEST EARLY

Three rising bars that spell an N, capped with a hand-drawn trend arrow. Friendly enough for a sticker pack, sober enough for a SEBI-registered partner deck.

Working process

Six weeks, five moves, zero guesswork.

Every engagement runs the same spine — what changes is how deep each move goes. You see work every Friday; nothing is revealed in a dramatic final meeting.

01
Excavate

A half-day founder interview plus a teardown of your category's visual habits — what everyone does, so we don't.

Week 1
02
Position

One page: who it's for, what it replaces, why it wins. Every sketch after this is judged against that page.

Week 1–2
03
Draw

Marks are drawn by hand first — 60 to 90 thumbnails — then only the three strongest are digitised and stress-tested.

Week 2–4
04
Systemise

Type scale, palette, grids, packaging dielines, motion rules — the mark becomes a language your team can speak.

Week 4–6
05
Hand over

A printed brand book, open files, and a 90-minute onboarding for whoever touches the brand next.

Final week
Friday drops Work-in-progress shared weekly — you're never in the dark.
Logo Lab · a toy

Compose a monogram in ten seconds.

This is how identity thinking works: same letter, different industry and mood — a completely different mark. Play with it, then download your favourite as an SVG.

A toy, not a deliverable — real marks take 60+ hand sketches. Downloaded SVG uses the Syne typeface if installed on the viewer's machine.

Founders' words

What the four said, after.

Unedited lines from handover calls — the kind of feedback that keeps a one-person studio booked out. (Names illustrative for this demo.)

Ananya asked us harder questions than our investors did. The mark she drew is now on 40 store shelves and I still notice people photographing the pouch. That never happened with the old brand — not once in sixty years.

The brand book is the best money we spent as a startup. New hires understand Nila in one sitting. And the crescent mark — our customers tattoo-request it on Instagram. I'm not joking.

We came for a logo and left with a point of view. Weekly Friday drops meant zero surprises, and the final files were so organised our agency asked who built them. One person, we said. In Indiranagar.

    Straight answers

    Asked every week.

Because the person you brief is the person who draws. No handovers to juniors, no telephone-game between strategy and design. You trade an agency's bandwidth for a senior's judgement on every single decision — and for most founder-stage brands, judgement is the bottleneck, not bandwidth.

Three directions, each stress-tested before you see it — on a pouch, an app icon, a hoarding and a bill. I'd rather show three marks that all work than ten thumbnails that don't. Two structured revision rounds are included on the chosen direction; most projects use one.

Yes — recent clients are in Chennai, Mumbai, Pune and Dubai. The process runs on weekly video calls and Friday work-drops. If you're in Bengaluru, the kickoff and the brand-book handover happen at the Indiranagar studio over filter coffee.

Open working files (AI + Figma), exported logo packs in every format your printer or developer will ever ask for, font licences guidance, print-ready dielines where packaging is in scope, and a PDF brand book — printed and bound for Full Brand System engagements. Plus a 90-minute onboarding call for your team.

Identity work starts at ₹65,000 and a full brand system lands between ₹2.6–3.4 lakh (bands illustrative for this demo). Payments split 50% to book the slot, 40% at direction sign-off, 10% at handover. GST extra. No hourly billing, ever — you buy an outcome, not my hours.

I take four engagements a quarter and the next slot is typically 3–5 weeks out. If you have a launch date, message me the date first — I'll tell you honestly whether the timeline is real before we talk money.
